Pacu are native to South America and the Amazon River.  This Pacu is 36" long and weighs approximately 40 pounds.  At 30" the Pacu weighs about 30 pounds.  They reportedly can reach 5 feet in the wild but rarely grow larger than 4 feet in the aquarium.  This tank is 2400 gallons and measures 12 feet by 8 feet by 4 feet high.  Although the Pacu is primarily a vegetarian, these fish eat hot dogs, beef heart small animals, birds and any fish, large or small, which shows signs of weakness.  They eat a head of lettuce a week in addition to cherry tomatoes, grapes and at times shelled nuts.  They eat a lot of trout food in the large pellet size both floating and sinking types.
